Today, fossil energy is dwindling while its reserves on earth are depleting and exploring such sources requires wide range activity and high costs. Hence, it is the time for people around the world to find and study other renewable energy source as an alternative. Exploring renewable energy sources requires high creativity, advance innovation and social ramification.
Therefore, based on the Decree of the Rector, all academic community members are encouraged to actively conduct various scientific researches in order to find new energy sources. The idea is by using any surrounding natural product as renewable energy source and to reduce waste. This will in turn maximize natural product potentials.
In addition, efficiency efforts are needed as an alternative to sustainable energy utilization programs. Among these efforts include conserving the available energy source by selective and appropriate use of electrical equipment such as light bulbs, computers, energy efficient and environmentally friendly air conditioners (AC).
Furthermore, using certain type of glass on electric lighting brings more benefits to energy saving program. This activity really supports an energy saving and eco-friendly campus. Planting some trees and or making ponds also reduce air temperature around campus. To keep the environment safe and sound, using renewable energy such as solar power for lighting is mostly recommended.
Meanwhile, to build the USU academic community’s awareness for new energy sources, several community service activities are conducted in various ways; socializing, training, and practicing of alternative renewable energy source utilization and climate change in cooperation with other institutions and professional organizations. In the future, the program will include workshops on how to produce and explore renewable energy source from organic waste processing and marine energy utilization to generate electric power. For that reason, USU is willing to cooperate with other educational institutions.
There are several programs for energy saving that have been undertaken including but not limited to periodical maintenance of all air conditioning units, upgrading awareness for energy conservation to the staff responsible for energy usage, encouraging students to participate in energy saving program either as initiator or as a researcher.
